Initial Contact
As soon as one of our Funeral Pastors (FPs) has received your information from the funeral directors, the initial contact with you will be a phone call. We aim to make contact on the same day that we receive your details. This way we can have as much time as possible to put together a service that's exactly how you want it.
In our initial phone call, we'll arrange to meet with you, as well as anyone who you would consider important. This meeting will likely be at your home, at a time that it's most convenient for you and for the FP taking your service. The timings will vary, but you shouldn't expect for it to take longer than an hour.
What Goes Into a Service
One of the things that Berkshire Funeral Pastors is really passionate about is giving you the space to create a funeral that is unique to your loved one and their family. You should feel totally free to personalise it. You can do that with things like bible readings, songs, hymns, extracts from favourite stories, poems, personal anecdotes, videos, prayers, and more. It's entirely up to you, but we will be on hand to guide you every step of the way.
Behind the Scenes
Your FP will hopefully leave the meeting with all the information they need to put together your perfect service. They will pass any relevant information on to the funeral administrators, and do any extra research that you agree at the initial meeting. This could include, but isn't limited to, writing a eulogy or other kind of tribute, looking into relevant poems, historical information, or music that might work for different places within the service. It will be much easier to personalise these things once we've met with you, and heard a little bit about what your loved one was like.
You will have your FPs contact details, and they will do their best to make themselves available to you for any questions or concerns you might have between the initial meeting and the day of the funeral.
On the Day
When the day of the funeral service comes, you can expect your FP to have arrived at least 25 minutes before the service. They will be waiting at the entrance when the hearse arrives, ready to greet everyone. They will have made sure everything is ready to go. They will continue to work together with the funeral conductor, as well as crematorium staff and other relevant people, to ensure that everything goes smoothly. It's also helpful for your FP to have a copy of any tribute or reading that's going to be uses on the day, so that you don't need to worry about anything except saying good bye to your loved one.
